Devotions: The Blessing of Blameless Ways

How blessed are those whose way is blameless,
Who walk in the law of the Lord.

Psalm 119:1 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Blameless is often synonymous with integrity. It does not mean perfection so much as having a heart aligned with God, being a person who follows God and His ways consistently and intentionally. Proverbs says that the one who is blameless is guarded by righteousness. Integrity and righteous living are a safe-guard against evil because they prevent the pitfalls and consequences of that lifestyle by default. It also says that God delights those who are blameless. This is a result of living in God’s law. It’s not enough to just be as good as you can and not worry about how closely you obey. Walking in the law of God requires much more than outward obedience; it requires a heart that lives there, one that desires God’s law and pursues it zealously. We cannot walk in God’s law if our hearts’ are not there. Our way cannot be blameless or one of integrity if we are partly in the law and partly in the world. That is hypocrisy which is the opposite of integrity. Know that we are not saved by the law, and no amount of obedience will keep us out of hell on its own. This is not talking about salvation but of blessing, spiritual prosperity and delighting the Father. It is the same difference as being a member of a gym and actually working out. One may have status with membership, but there is no real benefit if it is not used. The more one delights in it the more it will be used, and the more it is used the greater the benefit. Passionately pursue the law of God and be blessed!
