Be devoted to one another
in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor;
Romans 12:10 New
American Standard Bible (NASB)
This command is in
the middle of an exhortation (encouragement) to pursue godliness, and in it
Paul lays out how to do that. We should be devoted to fellow believers through
genuine love, the same love we feel for our family members. We should put
others above ourselves, giving them honor rather than seeking it for ourselves. This
kind of love requires humility, not putting ourselves down, but not thinking of
ourselves at all. As you go through the day, stop yourself every time you start
thinking about yourself. Instead make yourself think about others, how you
could serve them, love them, honor them. With Father’s Day just around the
corner that is a good place to start. Actively seek to honor and serve your
father and any other father in you acquaintance. Devote yourself to those in
your church. See what a difference that makes, in you and them.
