Devotions: Biblical Encouragement

For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
Romans 15:4 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Not only do we get encouragement from others, but we also get it from the Bible. Not only does the Bible contain instruction to help us live a godly life, but it also contains stories of those who have gone before, of those who walked with God and persevered. These are recorded so that we can have hope, so that we can see we are not the only ones struggling or imperfect, so that we can see how God worked in miraculous ways to help those He loves. We can take great encouragement from reading God’s word, reminding ourselves of God’s promises, faithfulness and love. That is why it is so important to read God’s word daily, and memorize scripture regularly, so that it is in us ready to give encouragement. I want to challenge you to start today, even if it is only a few verses, study God’s word and commit at least part of it to memory.
