Are Your Eyes On Victory?

Where is your focus? In everyday life, what draws your attention, what keeps you going? When times are hard, where do you look for help, what gets you through it? Are your eyes on victory?

How can you focus on victory? First you have to define what victory is, or more importantly, where victory comes from. Victory, of course, is overcoming some obstacle, which can play out in many ways in life depending on the situation. But where does it come from?

Psalm 25:15 (NLT)
My eyes are always on the LORD, for he rescues me from the traps of my enemies.

Victory is from God. He is the only One with the power to overcome anything. No matter how strong you are, no matter what your credentials are, no matter how prepared you are, you can overcome nothing without God. Even if you don’t acknowledge it was Him, or ask for His help, He is the One who did it. We can do nothing on our own, not even breathe.

Proverbs 16:9 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.

God is in complete control, no matter what. He is the One who makes life happen. So we cannot have victory without Him. That is not to say that only those who seek His help will have victory, our world would operate very differently if that were true, but as Christians we need to look to God for our victory. Without Him, we will go through a lot of hard work and pain to get what we want, with no surety of getting it.

So are your eyes on victory? Do you focus on God day in and day out? The best way to ensure a good (not trouble-free) life is to focus on God. The more time you spend reading His Word and talking to Him the more your heart will become aligned with His, the more you will be like Him, the closer to perfection you will be. The more your heart is like God’s the more your actions and choices will be like His. And that is how life is supposed to be.

God created us and created life, it only makes sense to operate life the way that He made it to work. Of course that does not guarantee a lack of trouble, but there are a lot of problems that could be avoided if life was lived according to God’s ways.

God is for you, He wants your life to be good, He wants you to succeed. But you have to live the way He wants you to, and you have to look to Him for victory. When troubles arise, don’t look to God as a last resort, a last ditch effort to make it happen. Go to Him first. Better yet, go to Him before the trouble comes. Seek first the kingdom of God and the rest will come.
