Hope In Crisis: Where Do We Turn?

Where do we run when crisis strikes? Do we stock up on bottled water and toilet paper? Do we seek horoscopes or advice columns? Right now the world is in crisis. Whether we believe the cause is real or imagined does not matter. The events transpiring at this moment will affect the future for all of us. Whether we are afraid of getting sick, afraid of what this panic will do to the economy, or just annoyed by the mass hysteria, we all have a choice. Where will we turn for truth, help and hope?

I Heard the Bells

Where do we turn when all hope seems lost? What joy and peace are to be found in the midst of great suffering and tragedy? Are not the cheery tunes of Christmas a mockery of the heart’s despair? These are questions many ask as Christmas approaches. While it is a fun and joyous season for some, it is a time of pain and grief for others, none more so than Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, who penned this poem-turned-hymn in the midst of despair and grief.

Hope That Doesn't Disappoint

Hope. In our cynical world, hope is wishful thinking at best. When a person hopes for something, they usually have little belief that it will really happen. I am definitely one of those people. I have been so disappointed and let down so many times that I cease to really believe something will happen until it does. But is that a godly response? Is there a different kind of godly hope?

What Is Your Hope In?

We all hope or trust in something or someone. Whether it is God, ourselves, another person, another religion, the stock market, we all live based on that hope. Interestingly, even if our hope is in something specific (stocks for instance) our perception of that affects the rest of our lives.
