He who did not spare His own Son,
but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely
give us all things?
Romans 8:32 New American Standard
Bible 1995
What do we mean to God? How
important are we to Him? It is not uncommon for people to think that God is
mean, harsh or at least indifferent because that is what they have seen of Him
through His followers. However, that is not true at all. The whole point of the
Bible is to tell about how God made us and made a plan from before creation to
save us from sin. That is the Bible in a nutshell. God chose to write one
(albeit rather large) book for us to know Him and it is about His desire to
have a relationship with us, and what He has done to make that possible. There is
nothing mean, harsh or indifferent in that. On the contrary, it shows His deep and
affectionate love for us. Even though we deserve punishment, He paid the
penalty for us. He would rather pay the price than live forever without us, not
because He needs us but because He wants us. So if God did not save His only
Son, but sent Him to be a sacrifice for us, wouldn’t He give everything else we
need too and then some? If He did not withhold His Beloved Son, why would He
withhold something (anything) which is of significantly less value? God is a
good God, who loves us dearly, who freely and generously gives us what we need
and more. We are so infinitely blessed by Him. Unfortunately, we don’t realize
it because we are not aware of it. We think that we deserve what we have been
given, that it is His duty. Or we have a different view on what it is that
would be best for us to have. Instead of being grateful, we become greedy, and
instead of saying “thank you” we say “is that all?” We have too high a view of
ourselves and too low a view of the sacrifice of Christ.
Do you trust God to provide? Do
you believe that He loves you and wants to bless you? Look at what God has done
for you! Look at all He has given you! He sacrificed His only Son for you!
Could He give you anything more precious?
