Devotions: So Thankful!

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service, even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief; and the grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus.

1 Timothy 1:12-14 New American Standard Bible 1995

What a fitting verse for Thankful Thursday! God is our strength. He is the one who gives us what we need for life and godliness. We can do nothing without Him. God is so merciful and gracious! He uses even those who actively, aggressively work against Him to do His work and bless others! Only our God can do that! God knows when we are ignorant and can be shown grace. And He is loving enough to show it. His grace is far more than we need for this life! Add to that the faith and love He gives us and we are so undeservedly, eternally blessed! No matter what we have done, nothing is too bad, no person is too far gone, to be beyond God’s grace and redemption. That is how much He loves us! He will and has done everything to save us so that we can be His! The lost sinners are exactly who Jesus came to save. The worse they are they more they need Him, but His grace is no less available to them. If we are willing to submit and surrender to Him and His will, He can and will take us from the miry depths, set us on the way of life, and use us in extraordinary ways. Paul was an awful person. Not only was he not a believer but he hunted down and persecuted Christians. Yet God used Him to be one of the most renowned missionaries and evangelists in history. God knew Paul completely, and knew how He could use him. And Paul was willing to be used once he saw the light.

Where are you? Have you seen the light? Are you willing to be used by God? No matter what you’ve done, God can and will use you if you will let Him. It is not dependant on you, but on His grace and strength. Seek His ways. Rely on His strength. See what God can do!
