Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;
And let those who love Your salvation
say continually,
“Let God be magnified.”
Psalm 70:4 New American Standard Bible
1995
This verse is part of a short
psalm of help by David. In the midst of his plea he paused to praise God. That
should be our posture and attitude in every situation. It should be our default
no matter what is happening. Praising God does a number of things.
First, it lifts our spirits.
Taking time out to lift our eyes above ourselves and our circumstances draws us
closer to the One of comfort and power. It distracts our worried mind and gives
us peace, hope and reassurance.
Second, it reminds us Who we
believe in and what He has done and is capable of doing. When we are
overwhelmed by our circumstances God seems far away and we forget that He has
already overcome the world. We forget that He is all powerful and feel like it
all depends on us. Worship helps replace our trust back to God.
Third, praise is actually a
weapon against the enemy. The evil forces cannot stand in the face of worship.
It sends them fleeing. That is part of why it lifts our spirits because it
chases away those keeping us down.
The way that praise becomes
our default is by seeking God continually. We need to make it our habit and our
top priority. If we seek God we will be given reasons to rejoice and be glad in
God. It will renew our love for His salvation and encourage us to praise the
Lord.
Is praise your default in any
circumstance? Do you seek God continually? Is it hard to remember to trust God?
Make Him your priority. Seek Him regularly and continually. Love His salvation.
Look for reasons to praise Him no matter what is happening. Be glad in the
Lord.
