They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.

The previous verse talks
about how God’s acts of mercy and compassion never end. They are renewed every
morning. We get a fresh start, a clean page every day. Yesterday’s mistakes and
faults are gone. God does not hold a grudge. Forgiveness for Him is complete.
Every act we repent of is not only wiped clean but completely erased, not only
is there not even a smudge left, but we get a new page with no trace of
anything on it. The key here is repentance. We have to acknowledge that what we
have done is wrong, ask God to forgive us, and resolve to turn away from that
sin. It is not enough to say sorry yet keep walking in it. If we are genuine in
our repentance, God is faithful to forgive. He has compassion on us. He extends
mercy, which is not requiring punishment for what we have done wrong. He is
faithful to forgive. We can trust that He will. He cannot go back on His word,
that would be contrary to His will and character.
What happened yesterday? What
mistake or mess-up would you wish to forget? Go to God in repentance, ask Him
to forgive you and start this morning fresh in His faithfulness and mercy.
