One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek:
That I may dwell in the house
of the Lord all the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of
the Lord
And to meditate in His temple.
For on the day of trouble He
will conceal me in His tabernacle;
He will hide me in the secret
place of His tent;
He will lift me up on a rock.
Psalm 27:4-5 New American Standard
Bible (NASB)
This is part of a psalm of
David expressing complete trust in God. He did not fear anything because he
trusted in the Lord. The desire of David’s heart was to be near God. It wasn’t
enough to come on Sunday mornings; he wanted to live with God, to be surrounded
by the things of God, saturated to the full. He wanted to be surrounded by
God’s glory and presence, to have it always in view. He wanted to think about
the things of God and be reminded of them continually.
Part of the reason why David
wanted to be constantly with God is because he knew that when trouble came, if
he was with God he would be protected. God would shield him from the suffering
of the world, not completely, but more than otherwise. God would vindicate him
in front of his enemies and put down those who wrongly accused and attacked
him. And God would rescue him from sin. Staying close to God keeps us from the
suffering that a life of sin yields, but if we are close to God, when we do sin
we will turn in repentance more quickly. We may not be spared the full
consequences of what we have done, but often they will be less. God has grace
and mercy on the humble, on those who repent and desire righteousness.
Being near to God is
something that every soul craves, but most do not realize that is what they
long for. Nothing can bring satisfaction like a close relationship with God. It
is something we should crave and seek above all else, and never stop seeking
this side of heaven. A life lived in God brings protection, peace and joy like
none other.
Are you satisfied with life?
Do you crave or seek God? Are you afraid of what is going on around you? Seek
God like your life depends on it. Strive to dwell with Him every second of your
life. Allow Him to protect and satisfy you.
