God is God and I am Not

Deep down we all want to be God. We want to be in control and do what we please. That is why satan was banished from heaven, by trying to become God, and that is the sin he used to trap Adam and Eve, by getting them to believe that disobedience would make them like God. Whether we are willing to admit it or not, though, none of us are. There is only one God, and He does not share.

Isaiah 45:5 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

I am the Lord, and there is no one else;
There is no God except Me.

Isaiah 44:6 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

This is what the Lord says, He who is the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of armies:

‘I am the first and I am the last,
And there is no God besides Me.’

Isaiah 37:16 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Lord of armies, God of Israel, who is enthroned above the cherubim, You are the God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You made heaven and earth.

Psalm 86:10 New American Standard Bible

For You are great, and you do wondrous deeds;
You alone are God.

Nehemiah 9:6 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

You alone are the Lord.
You have made the heavens,
The heaven of heavens with all their lights,
The earth and everything that is on it,
The seas and everything that is in them.
You give life to all of them,
And the heavenly lights bow down before You.

Deuteronomy 32:39 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

See now that I, I am He,
And there is no god besides Me;
It is I who put to death and give life.
I have wounded and it is I who heal,
And there is no one who can save anyone from My hand.

Psalm 83:18 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

So that they will know that You alone, whose name is the Lord,
Are the Most High over all the earth.

No matter how good, smart, strong or powerful we are, we are not God. No one ever, not even everyone together, could become equal with God. He is God alone, and He will tolerate no rivals. The time is coming when the people will rise up against Him, and He will finally put an end to evil, then all will see once and for all who is King and will bow down and acknowledge Him.

He alone has all power, all knowledge and wisdom, all control, etc. He alone is good. He knows everything that has and will happen. He has the power to do anything and everything. None can overcome Him. He has the power to give and take life, to heal or destroy. He is completely in control; nothing can happen without His consent. We may think that we know better, but we don’t. We can see only a brief window of time. He can see all of it at once. I have heard the analogy that if all of history were a movie, each of our lives would only take up a few seconds. That is our perspective. God can see it all at once. He also knows each person who has ever lived personally and intimately, all of their thoughts, actions and motives. He alone knows what is best because only He can see the big picture.

As much as we would like for things to happen our way, we need to acknowledge that it won’t, and possibly shouldn’t. We need to acknowledge the Ruler of the universe as the Lord of our lives, to bow down to Him in submission and surrender ourselves to His will and plan, accepting that we don’t know it all. We need to humble ourselves before His mighty hand.
