Devotions: Overcome the World

For whoever has been born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith. Who is the one who overcomes the world, but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

1 John 5:4-5 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

If we are saved by the blood of Christ and have His Spirit living in us, then we have overcome the world because of our faith in the One who has already overcome the world. The battle has already been won. Satan is already defeated. That is why he is working so hard to destroy everything he can, because he knows his time is coming to an end. We need to live as if we were already victorious conquerors because we are. We need to know the truth and live by it so it can set us free. As Christians, the only reason for us to live in bondage is because we have placed ourselves there. Freedom is available. This is not the end. Times will get harder before the end, but they do not have to overtake us. We don’t have to be run down by them. We can live in victory, peace and freedom no matter what happens around us. The key is our faith. Remember the dimmer switch? We need to be in the Word so the lights will be brighter. We don’t have to let satan keep us dim. Freedom comes from the truth which is found in the Word. Faith grows by hearing the Word. Are you ready for battle? Do you live as if you have overcome the world? How bright is your light? Make time to be in the Word regularly so that you can be ready, and live in freedom and peace.
