You who have shown me many troubles
and distresses will revive me again and will bring me up again from the depths
of the earth.
Psalm 71:20
~
God never promises that we will be safe from bad things, or that we won’t have trouble and suffering. Actually, it is the opposite. He said we will go through trouble and suffering. God allows us to suffer the consequences of our actions. He also allows the repercussions of others’ actions to affect us. This is not because He is mean or doesn’t care. It is because we are sinful and have the freedom to choose what we do. He also allows the natural flow of life to happen whether it is the consequence of someone’s actions, accident or illness. Does He want us to be hurt and to suffer? No. But He doesn’t want us to sin either, and He gives us the freedom to choose what we do. We may never know the reason why we suffer some tragedy that seems to be no cause of our own. We have to trust that God has our best interest in mind and will not allow us to go through more than we (with Him) can handle. He is our hope, our rock to cling to. When the storm passes He will pull us from the water and set our feet back on dry land. He will give us the strength to keep going and refresh us when we are weary. Cling to His truth and salvation, and wait for the storm to pass.
