Devotions: Blessing God

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

1 Peter 1:3-5 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Why is God to be blessed and honored? His great mercy has granted us the opportunity of salvation. We deserved death but He gave us life. Is that not a reason to praise and bless Him? Because of the sacrificial death of Jesus we have a living hope that death is not the end. This life is not all there is. We have an inheritance that cannot be stolen, spent, or destroyed. God is keeping it is heaven for those who believe and have given their lives to Him. We are protected by God’s power through our faith, a faith that transforms and results in salvation. All of this we will realize or see fully when we reach heaven. That is when we will “cash in” our salvation, receive our inheritance, and finally see Jesus face to face! What a glorious day that will be! All blessing and glory and honor to our God who has given us this great gift out of His love for us!
