Those whom I love, I
reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.
Revelation 3:19 New American Standard
Bible (NASB)
No one likes discipline,
neither the one giving nor receiving, but it is at the same time unpleasant and
good. I do not mean good as in happy, but wholesome. It is for our benefit.
Every loving parent disciplines their child, no matter how difficult it is, in
order to teach and train so that they will hopefully avoid worse problems later
on. God disciplines us so that we will not be condemned at the end. If we are
disciplined, repent and learn obedience we will be saved. Those who refuse to
repent, unwilling to learn obedience, have rejected the sacrifice of Christ to
free them from their sin. They have rejected His love. Yes, it is
uncomfortable, even embarrassing, to be disciplined, but it is better than the
alternative. If we are to avoid worse later on, we need to be zealous for God
and turn away from our sin. We need to humble ourselves and ask His
forgiveness. We need to learn from our mistakes and seek God’s help in doing
better. If you are experiencing God’s reproof and discipline; first be
encouraged, He loves you, second, listen to Him. Repent, turn from your sin,
ask forgiveness and learn from your mistakes. If not, make sure that you are
not ignoring the Spirit’s voice in your life. Be careful that you have not
deadened your heart to God so that you are unaware of His reproof and
discipline.
