Devotions: The Upward Goal

I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:14 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Paul worked diligently to the end of His life for the sake of this goal, this prize. That prize is the righteousness of Christ. In this life, as believer’s we are covered by Christ’s blood so that when God looks at us He sees His Son and we are made acceptable to Him through Jesus’ righteousness. Yet this righteousness is not our own. It is credited to our account, if one thinks of this financially, but it is not something we have fully attained yet because we are not truly, wholly righteous. We are still sinful. That is why Paul continues to work toward it. When we reach heaven we will be perfect and truly righteous, until then we need to work toward that goal, striving to become more righteous every day. Of course, we have the assurance that we are saved, counted as righteous, but we should not consider ourselves as “being” righteous yet. We need to keep working toward it, to become as Christ. Is that your goal? Are you working toward the prize daily?
