Therefore humble
yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper
time,
1 Peter 5:6 New
American Standard Bible (NASB)
This verse comes just after
an exhortation to serve God and others willingly, neither under compulsion nor
out of greed or a desire for power. We need to be humble and respectful toward
others for they are His workmanship just as we are. We also need to be humble
toward God. This may seem redundant or even unnecessary, but arrogance toward
God is fairly common. It comes in the form of thinking that we deserve better,
that we know what should happen or how it should be done, in trying to exalt
ourselves. How often do we cry out to God because we are suffering and feel we
don’t deserve it? How often do we feel unappreciated and try to let others know
our worth rather than letting God be the one to exalt us? How often do we try
to orchestrate our own outcomes rather than allowing God to work His way in His
own timing? All of these are examples of being arrogant toward God. They are
proof that we think we are smarter than God, that we are worthy of glory. Only
God is worthy of glory. Only He is worth exalting. He is the All-Knowing God,
the All-Powerful, the Almighty. One day we will learn that God knows best, and
life works better if we wait for His timing. If we exalt ourselves, we will get
man’s praise and that’s it. If we wait for God to exalt us, we will get an
eternal reward. Be patient. Trust God. Allow Him to do what is best in His
timing.
Sorry, no video for the next couple weeks. I will be traveling quite a bit.
