Devotions: Anxious Confession

For I confess my iniquity;
I am full of anxiety because of my sin.
Psalm 38:18 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Iniquity, sin and transgression are all different ways of expressing the same concept: a guilty act. David had sinned in some way. He fully felt the guilt of what he had done and was suffering, both from his guilt but also from punishment as a result of his sin. Yet he did not hide from God. He openly went to his Lord, the only One who can forgive sins, acknowledged the wrong he had done, and received forgiveness. This is how it should be for us. When faced with something wrong we have done, we should run to God, not away from Him. We should confess what we have done and ask His forgiveness. He already knows what we have done and has promised to forgive us. That is the godly way to respond to sin. That is what grace does in our hearts. Rather than succumbing to shame, hiding or denying what we have done, we should seek to be rid of it, allowing it to turn us to God. Are you full of anxiety because of your sin? Do you run to God and repent, or hide from Him? Acknowledge your sin and repent. Turn to the One who loves and forgives and be made right.
