Devotions: God's Words

For the Lord gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Proverbs 2:6 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

True wisdom comes from God. We can say things that sound good and smart, but we cannot be truly wise apart from God. In order for our words to be wise and have understanding, we have to seek God to fill us with His wisdom and understanding. He has promised to give it if we ask. We can also trust that every word that comes from His mouth is wise and understanding. Nothing He says is false, inconsiderate or uneducated. This includes the Bible. We can completely trust that what it says is true and good. We should place that at a higher authority in our lives than anything or anyone else. No one can give us wiser advice than God. Nothing can give us more accurate information about life and truth than the Bible. Unfortunately, the Bible is not a handbook for the 21st century person in which we can look up advice for any situation. We have to study it regularly and apply it continually in order to gain the wisdom and insight it offers. It’s not a quick fix or self help book. It takes time and effort, but it is worth it. Seek God’s wisdom. Ask Him to fill you with His knowledge and understanding. Study the Bible regularly and apply its truth to your life so that you may gain God’s wisdom.
