You
shall love the Lord your
God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
Deuteronomy 6:5 New American Standard
Bible (NASB)
Love is not passive, nor is
it meant to be compartmentalized, especially when it comes to God. We were created
to love God with every bit of our being. Our love for God should consume
everything we are and do, and it should motivate our every effort and action.
We do not love God here and others there. Rather we love others better the more
fully and completely we love God, for we can only truly love others when we
have God’s love in us. We cannot give what we do not have. We must love God and
let His love flow through us in order to be able to love others. This is the
best way to live, but it is also the way we are commanded to live. The whole
law and prophets is summed up in this one command (for the second command to
love others stems from this command to love God since we can’t love others if
we don’t love God.) How deeply do you love God? What can you do to increase
your love for Him and thereby increase your love for others?
