Devotions: Finding Wisdom

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
A good understanding have all those who do His commandments;
His praise endures forever.
Psalm 111:10 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

So many claim to be wise, to know what is right, yet very few really do. True wisdom only comes from God because He is the source of truth. No truth or wisdom can be gained apart from Him. In order to gain God’s wisdom we have to seek Him, submit ourselves to Him, fear Him. This fear is not the same as being scared or frightened, but a reverent respect, awe. If we view God this way, we will begin to gain His wisdom because we will respect and revere Who He is. The next step to this, though, is to do what He says. Wisdom does us no good if we don’t use it. We have to obey God and do His commands. If we do this then we will have a good understanding, our hearts and lives will be aligned with God and we will better perceive life. Fear God, gain His wisdom, obey His commands and praise Him!
