Devotions: Great Love

See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
1 John 3:1 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Not only did God sacrifice His Son to forgive our sin, not only did He die to give us life, but He has also adopted those who accept His sacrifice as His own children. He was willing to forgive enemies who hated Him (that’s all of us before we are saved) and then adopt them into His family. How deep the Father’s love! He took us from our sinful, hopeless condition and cleansed us, healed us, forgave us, and made us His family. He gave up everything in order to give us everything. He took us out of the world to make us godly. That is why we encounter opposition from the world, because we are no longer of the world. We really are aliens. We are not of this world, we don’t belong here, and we are not like those who do. Take heart, when you gave up your citizenship here on earth you gained eternal citizenship in glory with the greatest Father who ever loved you!
