Devotions: People of Thanksgiving

That my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent.
Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever.
Psalm 30:12 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Everything good we have is a gift from God. Not only does He fill our lives with good things, but they are all things we don’t deserve. Because of our sin, we deserve eternal punishment. nothing we do is good enough to remove our debt, let alone earn anything good. Yet God in His infinite love, has chosen to not only forgive us (if we repent) but also to bless us and fill our lives with good things. I know there are times it doesn’t seem like we have anything good, but that is because of our perspective. We have life. We have God. We have salvation and the promise of eternal life with Him. When we look at it, we will see that we have every reason to thank God. We should seek to praise God and thank Him for all we have always, but not only in word. We should make that the motivation of every part of our lives. Our lives should show the world that we thank and praise God for everything. Mike Harland said, “Praise is the fruit of our lips, worship is the fruit of our lives.” Let’s be people of praise and thanksgiving, but let’s make our lives back up our words. Let us live as people of praise and thanksgiving.
