Devotions: Don't Give Up

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

Philippians 1:6 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Sanctification is a really big word, but it has so much meaning. It is two fold; referring to our righteousness in Christ, both in how He sees us now and in how He is growing us in it. That second aspect is what this verse is talking about. When we are saved, God no longer sees us as sinners, He sees us clothed in the righteousness of Christ. But of course we aren’t righteous, not completely. When we are saved, God begins the work of making us righteous. He continually grows in us the image of Christ. The promise of this verse is that no matter how bad we mess up, God won’t give up on us. He won’t get tired of trying to make us perfect. He will keep going until He has fully succeeded. That won’t come until we are in heaven, but we have full assurance that while we are on earth God is working in us to make us more like Christ. Don’t give up. God isn’t finished with you yet!
