Turning to the disciples, He said
privately, “Blessed are the eyes which see
the things you see, for I say to you,
that many prophets and kings wished to see the things which you see, and did
not see them, and to hear the things which you hear, and did not
hear them.”
Luke
10:23-24 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
Jesus said this after
sending seventy of His disciples out to minister, and they returned with
reports of great miracles and authority even over demons because of His name.
They had authority over everything because of His power in them. Many of the
saints in the Old Testament wished to see Jesus, to see the Kingdom of God
on earth, but they died before it happened. The disciples were blessed because
they saw the glory and magnificence of God’s power first hand. What they saw
gave them joy to overlook the minor difficulties and inconveniences of their
journey. They witnessed the beginning of the over thrown kingdom of Satan
in the hearts of men. They had a foretaste of the glory that was to come. The
blessings and honor we receive, as sharers in the Good News of Christ, are
greater than even the saints of old experienced because of what Christ has
done. We have the grace and redemption of Christ! We have His power and
authority! How blessed are we!!!
