Devotions: The Blessings of Endurance

How blessed is he who keeps waiting and attains to the 1,335 days!  But as for you, go your way to the end; then you will enter into rest and rise again for your allotted portion at the end of the age.

Daniel 12:12-13 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

This comes in a chapter where God revealed to Daniel some details of what will happen in the “end times,” of the horrors and wonders that would occur. Daniel asked how long those would last and what the outcome would be. He was not given a direct answer, but told that he needed to continue as he was, that many would be purged, purified and refined as a result, meaning that the suffering would make those who believed even more like God. But those who don’t believe will continue in their sin because they would not understand.

I will not dispute the specific meanings and correlations of these verses. That is not necessary in order to find encouragement in them. The blessing that God talks about is found in perseverance, in maintaining righteousness and faith, in continually walking in the ways of God through to the end, whatever that end may be. If we do then we will enter into God’s rest, the rest of heaven where we will no longer struggle with sin, suffer, or toil with evil. We will gain the inheritance and prize awaiting those who are faithful! Whatever lot your life finds, stay the course to the end and be blessed!
