True Peace

Isaiah 26:3New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace,
Because he trusts in You.

Peace comes from God because He is the Sovereign Lord of all creation. He is in control of everything and is more powerful than all.
The King James translates the verse this way:

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Stayed is translated Strong's H5564 – camak which means to lean upon. We do not have peace simply because God is in complete control. Perfect peace comes only from trusting entirely in God, leaning on Him, and keeping our minds continually focused on Him. Any time our minds stray away from God we become discouraged, fearful, irritable, etc., because we are focusing on what is around us, or on ourselves, rather than focusing on the Rock of our Salvation. Our minds are the center of our being. It determines our mood, attitude, opinions and decision. We can control our minds and need to keep them focused on God.

To keep is translated from Strong's H5341 – natsar which means to keep, watch, guard, preserve, as a watchman. God is our watchman, keeping watch over us, to guard and protect us, if we keep our minds focused on Him. We have to be solidly based in God, immersed in Him. If not we will be easily swayed and influenced by the world and God cannot and will not guard us to give us peace.

It works both ways. God does His part, but we also have to do ours. If you want peace of mind, seek it, don’t just sit around waiting for it to happen. Seek God, trust Him, and absorb yourself in Him.
